27th Convocation of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University




• Honorary Doctorate to be conferred on renowned filmmaker, writer, and actor Shri B. Narsing Rao

• Hon'ble Governor of Telangana and Chancellor of the University, Shri Shiv Pratap Shukla, to be the Chief Guest 

• Former Director of NAAC and former Vice-Chancellor of Ambedkar Open University, Prof. V.S. Prasad, to be the Convocation Guest

Hyderabad, September 2026: The 27th Convocation of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at the Bhavanam Venkatram Auditorium, University Campus, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, announced Prof. Ghanta Chakrapani, Vice-Chancellor of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University, at a press conference held on Wednesday at Tourism Plaza. He stated that the Hon'ble Governor of Telangana and Chancellor of the University, Shri Shiv Pratap Shukla, will attend the convocation as the Chief Guest and confer M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees, UG/PG degrees, gold medals, and book prizes. He further mentioned that Prof. V.S. Prasad, former Director of NAAC and former Vice-Chancellor of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University, will deliver the convocation address. He also announced that an Honorary Doctorate will be conferred on renowned filmmaker, writer, and actor Shri B. Narsing Rao at the convocation. He revealed that at the convocation, to be presided over by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ghanta Chakrapani, degrees will be awarded to a total of 36,145 students across Degree, PG, Diploma, and Certificate courses. Vice-Chancellor - Press Meet Address Report (Highlights) • Total 36,145 candidates eligible for receiving Degrees/Diplomas Certificates. • 17,960 candidates in Under Graduate Programs. • 18,185 candidates in P.G/Diplomas/ Certificates Programs • 19,800 U.G / P.G/Diplomas/ Certificates candidates Women Candidates are receiving Degrees • 16,334 U.G / P.G/Diplomas/ Certificates candidates Men Candidates receiving Degrees • 43 (UG-4, PG-39) Army personnel are graduating. (Male-37, Female -6) • 11 Transgenders are receiving their degrees. • M.Phil and Ph.D Degrees: 23 Research Scholars will be awarded Ph.D and one candidate will be awarded M.Phil Degree. • 38 Gold Medals (16 in U.G Programs & 22 in P.G Programs) Total Gold Medals 38 (Women 29, & Men 09) • In U.G, Women got 14 Gold Medals, Men got 02 • In P.G, women got 15 Gold Medals Men got 07 Gold Medals. • A prisoner from Rajahmundry Central Prison is receiving a gold medal and A Book Prize for passing all subjects in a single attempt with highest marks. • Approximately 6,27,175 Degrees have been awarded during the last 45 years by BRAOU. • 27 Prisoners to receive Degrees: An interesting feature of this year's Convocation is 26 men prisoners and 1 women prisoner will also be receiving their Degrees i.e. (Central Prison Cherlapally; Central Prison Rajahmundry and Central Prison Kadapa). UG 12 and PG 15 are receiving their degrees. RECIPIENTS OF MORE THAN ONE GOLD MEDAL – U.G. PROGRAMS : • Bojjanapalli Sri Asritha (Admn.No. 1932250921) secured three Gold Medals. • Kadiyala Saibhanu (Admn.No. 0562210452) secured two Gold Medals. • Hajera Begum (Admn.No. 1942233723) secured two Gold Medals. • Shiva Parvathi Chippala (Admn.No. 1262248043) secured Two Gold Medals. • Nukapeyyi Suresh (Admn.No. 0742243912) Prisoner secured a Gold Medal and also won a Book Prize in U.G RECIPIENTS OF MORE THAN ONE GOLD MEDAL - P.G. PROGRAMS : • Manthena Sridevi (Admn.No.02124071205) secured Two Gold Medals. • Thota Shwetha (Admn. No. 02123283608) secured Two Gold Medals. The University got the approval of the University Grants commission to offer Eight New Programs in the ODL Mode and Five New Programs in the Online Mode from the Academic Year 2026-27 onwards. The programs approved in the ODL mode are: New Courses Introduced in - ODL (2026-27 onwards) • Master of Computer Applications (MCA) • M.Sc. Computer Science • M.Sc. Data Science • M.Sc. Statistics • M.Sc. Geography • Master of Social Work (MSW) • M.A. Education • M.A. Education (School Administration) New Online Programmes approved (2026-27 onwards) Taking a step towards Digital Education, the University started offering the following programs in the Online mode from the Academic Year 2026-27 onwards. • M.A. Telugu • Master of Commerce (M.Com.) • Master of Business Administration – (MBA) General • Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.) – English Medium • Bachelor of Commerce – Telugu Medium New initiative towards skilling and Employability: To equip its learners with relevant skills and integrate Employability aspects in the core curriculum the University collaborated with skilling and Industry partners. The following MOU were entered into to translate this into deliverables.  To power its skilling initiatives, the University entered into collaborations with different skilling organizations. I am happy and proud that Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Open University has emerged as a national leader in AI-driven and digital education, taking a major leap today under the global digital vision. In a historic development, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) in the presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister of Telangana Sri A. Revanth Reddy.  The University has developed a Graduate Employability Framework with the support of the Commonwealth of Learning (COL). As a part of this framework, the University signed a Graduate Employability Contract with COL-CEMCA to integrate employability into its existing courses and also develop a unique skill course. To facilitate the fulfilment of the contract, the Centre for Skill Development and Vocational Training center organized three-day workshop on “Course Development and Enhancement with Employability Attributes and Guidelines" in Collaboration with Commonwealth of Learning & Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (COL-CEMCA) for all the teachers of the university on December 16-18, 2025.  The University in collaboration with TCS iON offers “Job Achiever Business Operations Executive” Program is specifically designed to prepare students from the very first semester to meet the requirements of corporate companies, enabling them to seize opportunities in corporate organizations worldwide. Industry curated modules are added to the regular course content that can be completed concurrently while pursuing a degree.  The University signed an MOU with Common Services Centres (CSC) to facilitate easy access to higher education and digital services for University learners. This initiative opens 12,000 CSC centres for BRAOU learners to access university support services.  MoU with the Swami Ramananda Tirtha Rural Institute to further enhance vocational skills among students and provide skill-based education.  MoU with Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).  MOU with Jyothi Reddy Foundation to provide free higher education to learners from Particularly Vulnerable Tribes especially Gond, Koya, Chenchu and others socially backward tribes in the state.  The University collaborated with IGNITUS Edutech to Establish Language Learner Center- at the University campus to offer training programs in foreign languages including English, German, Korean and French.  MoU with TGPDCL for providing separate feeder to the University campus to ensure 24/7 dedicated lines with uninterrupted quality power supply with laying of LT UG cable in the entire to prevent frequent failures and discard the existing overhead lines to enhance the aesthetic appearance of the University campus premises.  Artificial Intelligence is transforming the education sector and teachers must be equipped with the knowledge and skills to effectively use emerging technologies in teaching and learning. Aligning with this, the University & Department of School Education, Government of Telangana organized “AI for Teachers” through the BRAOU Digital Education Academy.. Highlight & New Infrastructure. The University inaugurated B. R. Ambedkar International Institute for Dialogue on Governance and Equity (BRiiDGE) that serves as a platform to dismantle the invisible walls that divide society, aiming to bridge gaps in awareness and education. The core mission of BRiiDGE is to provide equal opportunities for all, fostering an inclusive society. BRiiDGE will host annual conventions and conferences to facilitate a broader exchange of ideas. To support this initiative, Rs. 100 Crores was allocated by the State Government from the SC Sub-Plan for development of infrastructure. The Vice Chancellor also requested the Telangana Government to allocate Rs.10 Crores annually for the next five years to sustain and expand the BRiiDGE program, ensuring its long-term success and impact on future generations. • New building for Comprehensive Learner Centre work is under process with an estimated cost of Rs.10.00 crores. • New compound wall and internal roads work is under process with an estimated cost of Rs.7.00 crores. • New building for Centralized Instrumentation Centre (LAB) and Digital Resource Centre (DRC) work is under process with an estimated amount of Rs.12.00 crores. • New building for Essential Staff Quarters work is under construction with an estimated cost of Rs.2.00 crores. Development of Cactus Garden beside the Administrative building, work was executed through the HMDA. • Development of Buddha Statue in Gnana Vanam being developed by the HMDA authorities in the University campus. • Development of play area for students and employees. • Developed the Digital Class Room AI DEA lab • Developed the Digital Class Room RVR Chandrasekhar Rao Meeting Hall at CSTD building in the University campus.
